Recently the school run by Gakushu Kenkyusha has anounced that it is going to close of November 30th 2002. The main stem of the students have been turned over to Shame, and GEM setup interviews for foreign teachers with SHAME. These teachers are mainly American, Canadian and Australian nationals.. I personally know of one Canadian who attended the interview being offered a job by Shame. The details offered to this Management lackey, were 35 hours per week for 265,000 Yen per month. Needless to say, this job offer was turned down by the person in question however at least 4 non British teachers will working there.

SHANE claims to be an All British school. This is a LIE. I know for a fact that SHANE has employed Australian teachers and uses American textbooks and cassettes.
SHANE claims to specialise in teaching English to children, yet most of its teachers have no qualifications or background in teaching children.
SHANE claims that its teachers undergo a training programme in "teaching English to young learners". This "training programme" consists of watching a few videos of successful children's classes and playing with some of the classroom toys. It falls far short of what is required to successfully teach children anything, never mind a language they cannot understand and have little interest in learning.
SHANE's sales pitch persuades students they can learn English in just one hour a week (or in some cases, half an hour)! Unless a student is also studying elsewhere this is totally inadequate for learning anything.
SHANE's sales pitch persuades parents to send children as young as TWO YEARS OLD to its English lessons. Unsurprisingly these poor kids learn nothing.
SHANE recruits teachers in England with the promise of providing them with company accommodation. In practice SHANE provides sub-standard accommodation (eg apartments with neither shower nor hot water in the kitchen) at inflated prices. SHANE leases apartments from landlords and rents them to teachers AT A PROFIT. To add insult to injury SHANE then insists on teachers providing 3 months notice to vacate their apartments.
Finally, should a teacher, recruited 6,000 miles a way, realise that SHANE's methods of operation leave something to be desired the company requires three months notice of resignation.
