NOVA employs teachers with NO teaching experience!
NOVA employs teachers with NO teaching qualifications!
NOVA employs teachers with NEITHER teaching experience NOR teaching qualifications!
NOVA demands that students pay a huge amount of money BEFORE beginning their lessons. This money is NOT REFUNDABLE.
NOVA's pay and conditions for teachers are among the worst in Japan, therefore NOVA teachers are usually so bad they cannot find a job elsewhere! This is also why NOVA advertises for teachers EVERY WEEK in the Japan Times!
NOVA uses the same boring textbooks (American Streamline, available from MOST bookshops) for EVERY lesson!
NOVA students sometimes do the SAME LESSON ten times or more!
NOVA's method is the same for all levels, from beginner to advanced!
NOVA teachers are not given time to prepare ANY lessons!
NOVA teachers are NOT ALLOWED to prepare their own lessons for students!
NOVA teachers are NOT ALLOWED to talk to students outside the classroom!
If you want to study English DO NOT CHOOSE NOVA!
NOVA stands for NO VAlue to students!

Here's NOVA's "method" as used in EVERY lesson:
1. warm up
2. picture speculation
3. listening task
4. listen & repeat and "drills"
5. silent reading of text
6. production: role-play, game, guided conversation etc depending on how imaginative
/ enthusiastic the teacher is.
The above method works for some students, some of the time. It DOES NOT work for most students, most of the time. It is a method that has been devised to allow unqualified, inexperienced personnel to appear to teach English with neither training nor preparation.
NOVA FIRES teachers who talk too much during lessons in the misguided belief
that teacher talking time (TTT in NOVA speak) is a bad thing. This is of course
NONSENSE, since students need to listen to correct English in order to be able
to speak it. Can a baby speak without first hearing? Of course not!
